Spoiler Free Review: Butterfly (Amazon 2025) – ⭐️⭐️½

Butterfly begins with promise. Daniel Dae Kim (David Jung) and Reina Hardesty (Rebecca) deliver strong performances in the early episodes, and the father-daughter assassin premise could have made for a compelling six-episode thriller. Unfortunately, by the halfway point the story loses momentum. The writing leans on generic spy-drama clichés, the villains (Piper Perabo’s Juno and Louis Landau’s Oliver) are underdeveloped, and even supporting antagonists who start strong eventually go nowhere.

The biggest disappointment is that the cast is better than the material. Kim, Hardesty, and others bring real presence, but the plotting lets them down. Instead of building suspense or surprising turns, the show drifts into predictability, leaving little reason to stay invested.

Unfortunately this show will have the lifespan of a Butterfly – short, forgettable and gone before you know it.

With so many stronger Prime series available—The Terminal List, Dark Wolf, Reacher—your time is better spent there. Butterfly had the ingredients for something great, but the story never rises above average.
